Students taking CS 10000 and CS 20000 level classes such as:
are given Introductory Student Accounts on the introductory student computer loki.cs.kent.edu or loki.
The student accounts are created when you first register for one of these classes and remain for 2 following semesters. Many students will get an account in CS 10051 Intro. to Computer Science and will still be able to use the same account for CS 23021 Intro. to Object-Oriented Programming if they take it within 2 semesters.
Introductory account usernames are in the form:
|
llfnnnna |
|
For example:
| Student Name | Username |
|---|---|
| John Dough | lljdoug0 |
| Fred Petes | llfpete0 |
This should be enough for most users to figure out their username. However, if your last name is less than 4 characters long, then you need to see about Short Last Names. If your username is to similar to another username then you need to look at the following section on Username Conflicts.
Because only some of the letters of your name are used to form your username there is a chance that two people with different names could have the same username.
These conflicts are handled by changing the digit at the end of the username. For example:
| John Doughs | lljdoug0 |
| Jeremy Douglas | lljdoug2 |
| Jason Doughs | lljdoug1 |
The ending digit is assigned in the order the accounts are created. If there are no more digits then characters of the alphabet are used.
If the user has less than 4 letters in their last name then, the whole last name will be used. For example Jet Li would have the username lljli0 and similarly John Woo would have the username lljwoo0.
For example:
| Jet Li | lljli0 |
| John Woo | lljwoo0 |
