It assumes that you have alread successfully installed Cygwin in MS Windows

Update Process

Run the setup program as you did when you initially installed Cygwin, or you can use the local copy of the Cygwin setup program.

Go through the same process as when you initially installed Cygwin. It remembers your settings from last time, so for most of the steps you will just be pressing the Next button:

Select Packages

In the window find the category of the package that you want. Click on the category to open it.

In each category you will find a list of packages. Select a package by clicking on it. You can see that a package is selected by seeing the Skip under the New column change to a version number.

There can be multiple version numbers of the same package. You can get them by selecting the package again. If you keep on selecting it, you will eventually go all the way around and the package will be marked for removal.

Some packages depend on other packages. So when you select a package, don't be surprised if it marks other packages as selected also.

Once you have selected all of the packages that you want press the Next button to continue the installation.

Progress

All of the packages that you selected for installation, and any packages that have a new version, will now be downloaded and installed.

As you update Cygwin you might see it installing some packages that you have already installed. It might be the case that an update is available for the already installed package and it is installing the update.
