The initial passwords on your account are in the form:
fldddddd
where:
For example John Dough, with student number 123-45-6789, password would be jd456789.
All users should change their password from its default as quickly as possible. You can do this by logging into loki using ssh and entering the password command passwd and following the directions.
Your password should consist of just letters, numbers and printable punctuation, such as ".". Using other characters may cause problems when logging in from some machines.
It is recommended that your password include at least one digit and/or punctuation character and no recognizable words. An example would be: 4xmld1z (mnemonic "For example 'dis'"). This reduces the chances that someone will be able to guess what your password is.
If a user forgets their password they must bring their student ID to the systems office, MSB 147. The password will be set to the default initial password.
After a number of repeated failed attempts to login to an account the account will be deactivated for security reasons. The user should bring their student ID to the systems office, MSB 147, to have the account reactivated.
